Weekly Meal Plan March 3-9, 2013


Happy Monday Friends! How was your weekend? It was beautiful here, listening to the birds sing and chatter back and forth. I heard rain in the forecast by mid week, which will be good for the garden. I spent a little bit of my time prepping my garden beds and adding our kitchen scraps to the compost.

On Saturday, we headed down to Denio’s Flea Market and Farmer’s Market for the family thrift store looking for new inventory (another way we get income coming in) and I always go through the Farmer’s Market for the best produce deals. We were running a little low on produce for the week and I’m still within my monthly budget. It’s much cheaper than the grocery stores and you’re supporting the local farmers.

This week’s meal plan is still sticking with our frugal living plan. I’m creating a simple meal plan based upon what I have on hand in the pantry, fridge and freezer. We are still within our monthly grocery budget and I haven’t gone to the grocery store for anything. My only exception is the produce I purchased on Saturday at the Farmer’s Market. This week, I’m adding a weekly dessert to the menu as a special treat.

Here’s our plan for the week.

Meal Plan

I meal plan at the beginning of each week. For me, it’s Sunday mornings when the house is quite and everyone’s still sleeping. I try and manage a decent frugal grocery budget and not go to the grocery store on a weekly basis unless we need dairy products like milk. Weekly meal planning saves our family money, reduces food waste, and keeps us from the urge to say, “Let’s eat out!”



My weekly meal plan and shopping list is completed and posted on our fridge:

Breakfast options:

(served with fruit)

French toast casserole
Biscuits and Sausage Gravy
Scrambled, Fried, or Hard-Boiled Eggs
Breakfast Burritos
English Muffins
Homemade Bread
Breakfast Cookies
Breakfast Potatoes
Mini Apple Pies or Turnovers

 Lunch options:

Sandwiches or Wraps (Tuna salad, egg saladchicken salad, turkey salad, leftover meats, grilled cheese, blt, pb&j)
Leftovers from dinner
Baked Potato
Homemade Pizza Pockets

Suppers Your Family Will Love

Need ideas for your weekly meal plan? It’s time for another weekly menu.  I enjoy menu planning because of  the simplicity it provides for my life. It enables me to decrease my grocery shopping excursions to twice a month and it allows me to  have more free time to focus on my family and home. For ideas in the weekly meal plan, we’ll be focusing on a variety of family meals. Sunday:  Sunday Supper~ Chicken and Green Beans {Crock Pot Recipe} – super easy recipe I’ll share with you this week!

Monday: BBQ Sloppy Joes* on Homemade Buns, Green Salad- Kid’s love this!  

Tuesday:  Crock Pot Beef Stew- I have that second sirloin tip roast I’m pulling from the freezer that I’ll cube. Still thinking about the recipe for this. I’ve made several before and I’d like to make a nice brown gravy. Will most likely make these easy homemade dinner rolls to go with it.

Wednesday: Burritos – easy and frugal! – Making another batch of crock pot pinto beans.

Thursday: Roasted Garlic Pasta Bake, French Bread and Garden Salad- I have a huge bag of garlic that I don’t want to go to waste so I’ll be roasting a bunch of it.

Friday: Looking forward to this night. Our new couches should be delivered by today. Yeah!!!! Will have our Family Favorites Night watching a movie and for dinner, Shepherd’s Pie -Love! This is one of my favorite comfort ground beef recipes. The original recipe posted was back in 2010. Since I’m sharing Friday Family Favorites, I think a better updated picture is in order.

Saturday: Chicken Quesadillas with avocados I picked up at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday- I just made another batch of my homemade taco seasoning mix. This time I used half regular chili powder and half Mexican chili powder which is a little spicy. we love our spicy foods!
