The First Step Towards Mind Body and Health
Some of you might ask, What is the first step towards mind body and health. Well for me, it was one day realizing just how tired I was. Being tired of all of the things that come from being out of shape and unhealthy. Of the emotional eating when I wasn’t even hungry. Of my clothes not fitting right. Not feeling good about myself, and simply just not being as happy as I could be.
Invest in Yourself
I decided to do something about it. A friend started talking to me about The 21 Day Fix from Beachbody. Initially, I thought, “Whatever, what a waste of money.” “I can’t afford that!”
But that one day I was so fed up and unhappy that I decided I would try it. I told myself: “I AM WORTH IT!” “I AM WORTH THE INVESTMENT!” Yes, it was a little expensive at first, but I really needed that kick in the pants. A jumpstart to getting back in shape. I needed that support and accountability in my life.
No longer Paralyzed by Fear
Sometimes when you have been physically unfit or unhealthy for a long time, the path back to a healthy body and life can seem long and tiresome. Even fearful. This can be demotivating and many people often end up being paralyzed into doing nothing about it. The journey seems so long that the first step seems the most difficult.
Take those First Steps to a Healthier You
This was it! So I signed up as a Beachbody coach, ordered my Shakeology and home workout program and joined an online fitness and accountability group on Facebook. Signing up as a coach, also gave me a discount, saving me a little money.
One thing that I’ve learned about the online fitness and accountability groups is that they are a great way to meet new friends, get motivation and to get a great workout that is done in a fun setting right in your home, backyard or wherever you have room to work out.
The hardest part about joining a new fitness program, starting a new routine or joining an online group, is making a good habit out of it. Take those first steps to a healthier you! The First Step Towards Mind Body and Health.
Create a habit that will keep you coming back. With us almost through our second month of 2016, I wanted to share some of my tips to help keep you motivated, determined and successful in your new fitness routine. Let’s make 2016 our year to shine!!!
Dream Big Sparkle More Shine Bright!
Join the online fitness & accountability group
Once I signed up as a coach/client, I had immediate access to my coach and accountability group on Facebook. I set my days and times for working out on my planner calendar just like an appointment.
Check in with the group once a day, twice a day or more often if you know you need more discipline. This is a GREAT way to keep you accountable because there are others just like you and me who might be in the same health and fitness rut.
After several weeks in an accountability group, you will have a great habit built up and working out and eating right will feel like a habit you’ve had your whole life.
Start Your Fitness Journey Out Slow
I workout 5 to 6 days a week more easily, but it didn’t start that way. In my first week of the 21 Day Fix program, I was modifying a lot. My body was moving and working out muscles it had never done before. I was very new to fitness life. Sure, I had walked a few times a month but that was it.
As the weeks progressed, I didn’t have to modify as much and noticed an endurance in completing the full 30-minutes and being able to do more sets. It’s okay to start out slow. No one will judge you.
Be Okay with the Soreness
Starting a new workout routine is going to make you sore. Lifting weights is going to make you sore. Using muscles you’ve never used before is going to make you sore. BUT! You will get through those times. Don’t let soreness stop you from allotting that 30-minutes a day into your daily routine.
It does go away with time. It takes a really tough workout to make my muscles sore now. Grab some ibuprofen, do lots and lots of stretching, use the heating pad and continue your journey.
Often times, changing up the daily workouts will actually work out those sore muscles because moving helps. Especially the pilates and yoga. Although I still haven’t mastered yoga. But I do my best.
So you have your workout routine mapped out. Follow this same routine for several weeks, do the same workout, same time and don’t give yourself any reason to not to.
You’re working out at home, let no distractions take you away from what you want to achieve in your health and fitness goals. After you’ve built up a habit, choose another workout program that sounds fun and rotate or swap them into your schedule. It’s always good to change it up.
Most days, I try to get my workout done in the morning. I make a routine to roll out of bed at 5 am, fill my water cup, put on my workout clothes, pop in my DVD and I’m ready to go. Once those workout clothes are on, it’s a mood changer! You will instantly feel like there is no choice but to DO IT!!
Buy yourself a fun workout wardrobe. Super fun headbands are everywhere! My favorite pants come from Walmart and Target and JCPenny/Kohls are great for finding cute tops. I look forward to wearing my workout clothes, they are cute and I feel good in them! If you look forward to wearing them, then you will want to workout. See how that works? Heck, you’ll find that you’re always in workout clothes.
Make the Decision
Make the decision that you are going to do this, you are going to work out, check in each day with your online fitness accountability group and coach and you are going to be successful. There will be failures in your journey, plateaus, but they will help you grow, learn and grow you stronger.
I make the decision to be stronger, not the mindset of needing to lose weight. Feel empowered about getting stronger! Make goals to lift more weights, to lift heavier weights, to do real pushups, to do so many squats.
When you make fitness goals like that, it takes away the mindset of the scale and helps you get through those times when the scale doesn’t move.
Results or Excuses
You can’t have both. If you want those results, you need to put away all excuses and tell yourself today that you can do it. Then do it! When I wake up in the morning and don’t feel like going, I roll back to my “routine” and my workout clothes go on. Then, I remind myself that this isn’t a choice, let determination kick in and you won’t need “motivation” to get you into the gym that day.
Once you do it, there will never be a time when you walk out of that gym regretting your decision to go in.
