Sharing my family’s recipes and DIY projects and recipes are great and I’ve really enjoyed it over these past few years, but I want to stop and share with you some of the healthy habits, changes and personal growth I’ve experienced from living a healthy lifestyle.
I have been putting in place to inspire you to make some changes not just to your family’s lifestyle, but for your heart and mind as well. Without these changes, I would not have been able to focus some time to write this blog post!
Time For A Change
As many of you who follow my blog closely and know me personally realize, I have spent the past 2 years pretty much in survival mode as I grew my blog and my ability to be free to leave my job and work from home to stay home with our two younger children.
Our family had pretty much lost its main income. So to focus on our family’s home business, I stopped making time for my passion of sharing my family’s mealtime recipes, and DIY projects with you, I had put my own personal well-being on the back burner. Unfortunately, this led to some very unhealthy habits!
Healthy Habits, Changes and Personal Growth
My 6 Healthy Habit Changes
1. Waking up at 5 AM
5 am?! How in the world is this a healthy habit you say? Well, I am really and have always been a morning person and am the most productive in the morning when the house is quiet. Over the past few years, my bedtime has inched almost to midnight as I worked feverishly into the night because I didn’t have enough time during the day to get all the tasks done when I needed to get them done.
Even when I went to bed, my mind kept going on all the things I either didn’t finish or had to get done. But this always left me groggy in the morning. And maybe it’s because I’m older, but I seem to function much better going to bed between 9-10PM.
It really is true when they say your body needs those hours of sleep. I decided to try it and all I can say is that I feel so much better! No one is awake at 5 AM and I am able to focus on getting things done like writing blog posts, scheduling social media, reading my personal development books, etc.! Waking up at 5 AM allows me to focus on my family when they wake up and I don’t feel like I have a million open threads. I highly recommend you try this!
2. Taking a Daily Walk/30-Minute Workouts
Because I am waking up earlier and getting loads of things crossed off my list before 7 AM, I am able to then take a lovely 30-45 minute walk either early in the morning or later in the evening 3-4 times a week. I used to walk all the time and I cannot believe it took me so long to do this and I had stopped for so long. Making the excuse that life got in the way.
I’ve always loved walking and could walk all day if I had the time! Especially early Spring or Fall. It’s so beautiful in the Sierra foothills during this time of year. It’s a great time to clear my head of all the hustle and bustle of the day.
I have been using this time to make some phone calls. Think of blog post ideas, social media posts and reaching out to others. I am an extrovert and while I can walk alone, it is always fun for me to walk, talk and think. So I use this time to catch up with friends in real life and have a real conversation. It is helping me develop deeper connections again which is a great habit to make and of course, I am getting some exercise in.
I also make the time each morning for a 30-minute home workout. It doesn’t cost much effort to push play on my laptop or DVD player. We all have the same 24-hours in the day. It takes 21 Days to Make or Break a Habit. If I can do it, anyone can. 🙂
3. Boosting My Immune System
I always need to focus on immune boosting. I am doing this daily in a couple of ways:
- Drinking Shakeology daily. What is Shakeology? It is my daily dose of dense nutrition. A meal replacement with more than 70 super-nutritious ingredients. Proteins, Vitamins, and Minerals – to help reduce hunger and food cravings. Antioxidants and Phytonutrients – to help detoxify and protect the body against free radical damage. Adaptogen Herbs – to help increase energy and combat stress. and Prebiotics, Probiotics, Fiber, and Digestive Enzymes – to aid digestion and promote regularity.
I have been drinking 1 shake daily as a meal replacement for about 5 months. Read more about it and read about my experience of getting your daily dose of dense nutrition from drinking Shakeology.
- Clean Eating daily. One of the keys to losing weight and getting healthy is to eat more whole foods, eat smaller portions and do so 5-6 times daily. Choosing the clean eating lifestyle is not a diet and it doesn’t mean you need to pack away your sweet tooth. It just means you enjoy proper portions of foods.
4. Personal Development
Yes, you read that right. I think a major healthy habit change for myself is to just get back to making the time to read for pleasure. To unwind or wake up with a positive outlook. Books like The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy or The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. They both provide you with resourceful information on personal growth, inspiration, relationships and learning to enjoy life successfully.
Just nice, fun, enjoyable reads. It is amazing how much easier it is for me to fall asleep if I have been reading a good engrossing positive outlook book right before bed versus sitting on my phone scrolling to see what’s going on in social media.
Right now I am reading this amazing book, The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, PH.D. about getting the most out of your job, your marriage and family life, and your community. You don’t need to be an intellectual or have innate talent to attain great success and satisfaction – but you do need to learn and understand the habit of thinking and behaving in ways that will get you there.
The amazing part about this book is that it opens your mind to living better, manage better, earn more money, and most important of all – live better, finding greater happiness and peace of mind. It’s an inspiration and motivation paradise!
5. Getting Happy
Since getting into clean eating, living a more healthier positive lifestyle, I’ve pretty much gotten rid of all the negative nellies and the dwellers on my life. I surround myself with positive people who don’t judge me but believe in me. We’ve all have made mistakes in our lives but I’m choosing to learn from those mistakes and move forward in my life not backward.
I’ve distanced myself from negative people who try to lower my motivation and decrease my ambition. And I’ve created a space for positive people to come into my life. I surround myself with positive people who believe in my dreams, encourage my ideas, support my ambitions, and bring out the best in me.
Some people may criticize me for this, but being negative all the time, not moving forward in life is really depressing really for anyone. It’s not childish to feel like this and I’m living for myself and trying to set a positive outlook on life for my younger children. They know their momma isn’t perfect but they love me for who I am and know that I would do anything for them.
21 days makes it a habit right? Never Turning Back!
