Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese

Macaroni and Cheese is one of those delicious comfort foods most kids grew up with and it’s perfect for lunch or a side dish for dinner. Whether you’re having a big family get together or enjoying a backyard bbq with friends and family nothing says comfort food like a bowl of Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese. My family loves macaroni and cheese and I love to use my crock pot!

This recipe was adapted originally from Trisha Yearwood, who has her own cooking show on Food Network. Today, I’m sharing the original recipe with you and below the recipe, I’m sharing some of my simple additional ingredients that I’ve adapted the recipe with to turn a simple macaroni and cheese dish from ordinary to extraordinary.

Warning: This recipe call fors 5 cups of shredded cheese. If you’re ready for a good arm workout and boy it’s a lot of cheese but it’s sooo good.

Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese

Serves: 12

  • Cooking spray
  • 8 ounces cooked elbow macaroni, cooked (I haven’t tried it un-cooked yet)
  • One 12-ounce can evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick ) of butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Dash of pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Two 10-ounce bricks sharp Cheddar cheese, grated (about 5 cups)
  • Dash of paprika
  1. In a large 4-quart slow cooker sprayed with cooking spray, mix the macaroni, evaporated milk, milk, butter, salt, pepper, eggs and all but 1/2 cup of the grated cheese. Sprinkle the reserved cheese over the top of the mixture and then sprinkle with paprika. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 hours and 15 minutes. Turn off the slow cooker, stir the mixture and serve hot.

Simple macaroni and cheese additions I like to add in occasionally:

  • Steamed frozen peas (half hour before macaroni and cheese is done)
  • A sprinkle of bread crumbs, either homemade or store bought like Panko
  • Cooked chicken pieces
  • Sautéed ground beef and steamed string beans
  • White tuna
  • Rec kidney beans
  • Steamed broccoli florets
  • Chopped olives
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Pepperoni slices
  • Chopped fresh basil
  • Feta or Romano cheese
  • Pestso
  • Wagon Wheel, bow ties, spirals pasta instead of macaroni noodles
  • You could use pre-shredded cheese or a bag of shredded Mexican cheese, add in a little pepper jack cheese if you want a little heat

Labor Day is next weekend. Wow, hard to believe isn’t it? Looking for that easy menu so you can entertain your friends and family? This is a pasta dish would make the perfect compliment to any bbq foods like burgers, chicken or ribs.
