Creating Fitness Habits: Setting Goals Using Fitbit Charge 2

Fitbit Charge 2

Yes, I’ve done it. I’ve joined the Fitbit crew. I’m now creating my fitness habits by setting goals using my Fitbit Charge 2. I don’t know why it took me so long to actually get one. I bought it at the end of our Disney family vacation during this past Spring break. We did so much walking that week and I didn’t get to track my steps. My intent was to get one at the beginning of our trip, but we had so much going on, that I forgot until our trip was almost over. I’ve been religiously using it day and night (night time keeps track of my sleeping patterns).

Fitbit Charge 2

The Fitbit Charge 2, lets you keep track of not just your steps, but you can maximize your workouts with the auto exercise recognition feature which gives you your exercise summaries. You can customize it the way that fits your health and fitness goals. It has a long battery life, usually for me 4 to 5 days depending on how often I sync it with the app on my phone during challenges but some weeks, it lasts longer.

If I’m in a workweek hustle challenge, I’ll sync it more often. It has a continuous heart rate tracker, right now mine’s at 66 and I’m sitting here writing with my second cup of coffee in hand.

And for those sleep patterns, it tells me when to wake up if I haven’t gotten out of bed yet and it tells me to get ready for bed so I can get a full night’s rest. My sleep patterns haven’t been the best. I’m lucky if on my days off I can get a full 8 hours of sleep. For the most part, I’m getting 5-6 hours with very few deep sleep patterns. Hmmm, I think I have to change a few things up.

Creating Fitness Habits

I’m mainly use it as an extension of my life. I like knowing how many steps I’ve done each and every day, how long I’ve been active throughout the day, what my sleep quality is like and how well I’ve done with my miles. And for me, really it’s the little details that really sell the Charge 2. This Fitbit has a silent vibrating alarm that I love and I like that I can set a “you should probably go to bed now” reminder. I am so able to track my water intake (although I’m not a fan of how often I seem to forget to do this). There’s also a nifty feature where I  can get texts and call notifications through it. Automatically tracking my sleep and exercise is pretty cool and I like that I can set and track my own goals.

Daily Step Goal

I have a daily 10,000 step goal I try and meet every day. Since I wake up around 5:30, I’m usually able to hit over 1,000 steps before I’m out the door going to work. There’s an alarm that goes off 10 minutes before each hour if I haven’t reached my 250 steps per hour that reads “Take me for a walk”.

Fitbit Charge 2 Replaceable Bands

The bands are interchangeable too. I bought these on Amazon and they were a great price with good quality.

I love the idea of changing my band to coordinate with my outfits and even my scrubs for work. Amazon is a great marketplace to find items at reasonable prices. Here are the bands I purchased. So far no issues with them and as I previously mentioned, they are of good quality.

I think the thing with fitness trackers like the Fitbit Charge 2 and other Fitbits is they’re an educational tool. People who buy a fitness tracker and expect to get fit just from managing to hit 10k steps every day are sadly mistaken – they totally are. You have to change your eating habits too My Fitbit is an extension of my life and it’s a way for me to learn about myself more and that’s my favorite thing about it. It’s encouraging for me and my own personal accountability partner.

Being in challenges with friends encourages me to do more steps too. Knowing my statistics encourages me to improve on them. It’s not going to work miracles if you don’t put the work in on the other side.

I absolutely love my Fitbit and I’m so glad I bought it. You can add me on Fitbit with my email address – (So please do because I love having friends on there!) Please note any correspondence regarding website topics, guests posts, etc should be directed to
