It’s September, summer is officially over, the kids are finally back into the groove of a routine on school days, and we are back into our work routine.
I feel like now we have a little bit of time to relax for just a bit before the true Fall season approaches and upcoming holidays.
But the one thing that our family never gets out of routine is our family mealtime. We’ve made some simple changes to the way we eat and have chosen to change the way we live for a healthier better lifestyle.
One of the great things that happened over the summer was that the kids seemed to be a little more focused on fitness and now that they are older and in a higher grade at school they tend to work a little harder in PE.
Those kickball days are for the most part behind them. Our son, who is 13 now is really wanting to improve his running time results around the school track. When he started out, it was a bit of a challenge but he kept pushing himself knowing he could do better.
Since we’ve been eating clean and the kids see mom and dad exercising, they have shown more of an interest in their eating habits. But eating a healthy meal and exercising tends to be something that challenges most people when you’re a busy family who has lots of activities going on.
There’s either the excuse that they have no time or they simply have no energy. Wouldn’t it be great to have more energy like our kids?
Lifestyle Changes Become Routine
Since we began this lifestyle change, I’ve had friends and our routine customers at the store ask us about our workout routines & our eating habits are going.
Well, let me start off by saying that I’ve personally tried many different ways of exercising ~ a gym membership–way too expensive, treadmill–I want more of a workout, walking on my own–nice, but sometimes boring by yourself, certain over the counter pills–makes you feel nauseated and there could be health risks, but truly nothing has worked long-term for me.
This way of fitness was never motivating for me, so I never had the enthusiasm to continue on with fitness.
That is until I started doing workout DVDs at home. Just 30 minutes each day at home in my own living room. The workouts have honestly given me (and dozens of my friends I know) the best results. They keep you motivated.
I now wake up at 5 am days a week when the house is quiet to get my workout in. I’m happy to say I’ve been successful using just clean eating and a great nutritional program from Beachbody called the 21 Day Fix ~ where you can lose up to 15 lbs. in 21 days! I’m on Day 5 of the 21-Day Fix, in the past 3 weeks (after 2 weeks of clean eating ), I have lost 5 pounds already. That’s a good start for this momma!
There are different Workout Challenge Packs to choose from and I can’t wait to try some of the other ones but since the kids were showing an interest in fitness and eating healthy, we decided on starting with the 21 Day Fix.
With the 21- Day program, nutrition, calories, and portions are the main focus ~ which makes complete sense since 80% of weight loss is based on what you eat.
The program provides you with the tools to help guide you so your meals are foolproof with color-coded, portioned-controlled containers (that you keep forever, like the videos).
Everything is planned for you so you don’t have to do any kind of mental work. Each container has a list of food options that can be eaten; you get to pick and choose as you go.
This is great because it helps the kids learn about portion control, what snack foods are healthy choices and it’s fun sitting down with them and mixing and matching meals in the containers for the week.
The meal choice ingredients are what you choose from eating group and then you plan your meals out for what is to be eaten throughout the day; allowing at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours in between each meal and snack time.
Based on your individual calorie count, you are given a certain number of portions you can eat from each colored container. Choose the same plan for each day or you can mix it up. You choose how & when you combine them as long as you are getting the set amount of calories each day. It’s that easy.
This program even allows treats like chocolate or even a little wine because while it’s a 21-Day Fix, you learn how to continue eating healthy afterward to create a lasting healthy lifestyle.
Remember, you are not on a diet. This is not a diet plan. It’s a way of teaching you and helping you and your family eat healthier.
The meal plan can be ADAPTED to meet your needs and the needs of your family with suggestions and directions on how to do so and there’s also a section with a restaurant guide given for those who like to dine out on occasion.

The great things about the workouts in the program is that they are easy to follow, include how to modify each workout if you’re a beginner like me or have difficulty in certain areas and requires no special equipment (using resistance bands or light weights are optional), but have so many resistance moves using just your body that you will feel it the next day.
Workouts are only 30 minutes a day and anyone can participate, no matter your level of fitness.
I personally need proper nutrition to have the brainpower to concentrate, have patience and energy. If I don’t workout my mood dips way down, I have less energy and confidence.
When my pants are feeling a little snug, or I feel bloated, I tend to feel blah which in turn affects everything I do. My mood, my health, and energy. It’s like a downward spiral, once you lose focus it’s even harder to get it back.
