Homemade Fluffy Holiday Dinner Rolls

I love these Fluffy Holiday Dinner Rolls. I make them every year during the holidays because this recipe makes the most fluffy and light, perfect for that gravy scraping roll, you’ll wonder why you even bought rolls from the store. I started making them for Thanksgiving a few years ago and my family loved them, so they have become a regular part of our Thanksgiving menu. If you thought making your own rolls was hard, then you have to try this recipe. You’ll be so glad you did.

Homemade Fluffy Holiday Dinner Rolls


Makes: 12 rolls 

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter (4 Tablespoons)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 4 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour*
  • 1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
Directions:
  1. Pour milk in a microwave safe container or bowl. Chop butter and add it to the milk. Microwave milk and butter for 1 1/2 minutes.
  2. While the milk and butter are in the microwave warming, turn on the tap to get your hot water.Temperature is VERY important to get your rolls to rise quickly. Cold water will make your rolls rise slowly. I usually put my finger in the water to test it. You want it to be just on the edge of unpleasant.
  3. Put your milk/butter and hot water in the bottom of your bread machine.  Add the sugar and salt. Then add the flour. Then the yeast.
  4. Turn your bread machine to the dough cycle and press start. (Usually runs for about 1:30). Using the bread machine to do all the work for you will free up some time for you to tackle other tasks on your Thanksgiving list. Of course you could always make the rolls a day or two ahead of time and freeze.
  5. Coat the inside of a 9×13 baking pan with butter.
  6. Spray your counter, or a cutting board lightly with cooking spray. Lay your dough on top of it. Take a sharp knife, spray it with cooking spray and cut your dough into 12 pieces. Make them as equal as you can….perfection  of course is not necessary.
  7. Gently round them into balls, and put them in your buttered 9×13 pan.
  8. Cover with a dish cloth and let them rise in a warm spot for about 20 minutes or until they have risen about 1 inch above the rim of the pan. (You could also preheat your oven to 170 degrees and let them rise in the oven for 20 minutes).
  9. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees or if you already have it heated to 170, leave your pan in the oven and turn the heat up to 350 degrees. Bake for 15 minutes. This time includes the time it takes the oven to increase in temperature. If your oven takes a long old time….you will of course need to increase the time baking. Bake until golden brown.
  10. Brush with a little softened butter and serve warm.
