Bring Family To The Table:Family Dinner Project Week#1

  In the middle of the week, I asked my readers to join me in the Family Dinner Project. Sharing about  family dinner nights, and how the kids were involved. What easy meals were created and enjoyed. And the one thing  learned about your family that week. Here’s what happened with our family during this first week.

What we learned:Family meals need to be a bonding time for each other.

I check my phone, e-mail, message boards, group and fan pages constantly throughout the day, and sometimes, even when I’m cooking dinner. There are also times where I am at the computer until 8 or 9pm working, etc. just to stay connected with networking  my business and all the tasks that comes with it. Does this sound like you?

Technology has become such a obstacle in so many homes these days. It’s either the television, computer or cell phone that has everyone in a crazed mode. How do you dominate this distraction?

When dinner is about to be begin, we turn off everything or unplug it. Phones are put away, computer put in idle mode and television is turned off. The only noise we hear is the sound of our family’s voices talking. Our kids are telling us something exciting that happened in school and the hubby and I are discussing how beautiful the weather is and how the family can take advantage of it. Right now, the kids are really enjoying this lovely Spring weather we’ve had for the past couple of days. We’ve been out watching them ride their bicycles enjoying the fresh Spring air. This is called bonding with your family. Even if it’s just an hour’s time, it’s a rewarding feeling staying connected with your family. Your kids will remember it too.

Our favorite Easy Meal of the week.

Our family vote was the Sloppy Joes. Yes, it’s a simple meal, but when you’re unwinding after a busy day, it’s quick and easy. Not to mention tasty. This was an easy recipe for the kids to help make and assemble.

Our dinner record for the week.

We went 6 out of 7 so far. Tonight is our Family Movie Night. The kids are going to help make the pizzas and salad.
