April: Sweet Pea or Daisy
What will you choose to bring your garden to life?
April’s name is derived from the latin aperire, meaning to open. In truth, April is the month of opening. It’s a gardener’s month, for the trees bud overhead beautiful blossoms and the bulbs at our feet open. It’s a month for entertaining, and once again we open our homes to company following the austerities of Lent. April opens the world of fashion too. On Easter Sunday church steps all over the country become flower gardens of silk and satin posies bobbing atop incredible bonnets.
With the earthy fragrance of newly spaded gardens, the first concert of song sparrows returning to nest in the tulip tree, and the matted winter lawn now turning green after a night’s steady rain, April bring to all a sharpened awareness of the natural world around us.
