Homemade Sandwich Bread

Posted on 19 April 2010 by noelskitchen

I find that my bread machine comes in handy on days that I have a lot planned around the house. Whether I’m cleaning, doing laundry, yard work or putting together a post on my website, it’s nice to be able to throw all the ingredients together and just push start.

I was able to make four loaves of bread and a quick batch of pita pockets for the this upcoming week, still have time for all the necessary chores around the house while and I was able to enjoy the beautiful weather we had.

Homemade Sandwich Bread

Ingredients:

1 cup warm water (110-115 degrees)

1 Tablespoon milk

2 Tablespoons oil

2 Tablespoons honey

2 Tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

3 cups Better For Bread unbleached flour

2 teaspoons dry active yeast

Recipe Note: When making Wheat Bread, use 1 1/2 cups wheat flour and 1 1/2 cups unbleached flour.

Directions:

Place above ingredients in bread machine in order listed above. Set bread machine on dough cycle. 15 minutes prior to dough cycle completing, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease loaf pan.

Once dough cycle completes, remove dough, punch down lightly and place in loaf pan. Cover with a towel and let sit for 30 minutes until dough rises again. Bake in oven for 30 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes and remove from loaf pan and cool 30 minutes on a cooling rack.

*Oven temperatures do vary, so please check your bread until you are familiar with how your oven cooks. If top of bread starts to quickly brown, a pice of foil can be placed lightly over the top.

You may find that breads tend to get expensive at the grocery store. Sometimes you pay $1.49 up to around $2.00 or $3.00 for a single loaf. I made 4 loaves with ingredients most everyone has on hand in their pantry and I still have leftover ingredients to even make more. That to me is a bargain when menu planning.

I’ll be making a variety of homemade breads in the upcoming weeks like my Sun Dried Tomato, so be sure and visit the kitchen again.

How To Store Flour:Store flour in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. For longer storage, place bag in a food-storage plastic bag, seal tightly and refrigerate or freeze. Bring flour to room temperature before using.
